Advancing CO₂ Purification Performance

ZEFIRA has announced a significant breakthrough in the performance of its carbon-membrane purification modules, achieving new levels of selectivity and durability under industrially relevant conditions. CO₂ purification is one of the most energy-intensive steps in carbon conversion pathways. Traditional systems rely heavily on thermal separation, which increases cost and complexity. ZEFIRA’s membrane solution reduces this energy burden by operating at lower temperatures while providing superior molecular discrimination between CO₂ and other gas species.

This advancement brings meaningful improvements to compact, modular CO₂-to-fuel systems. It enables cleaner CO₂ streams to enter downstream reactors, improving conversion efficiency and ensuring stable operation even under fluctuating feed conditions. The new generation of membranes shows strong potential for incorporation into power-to-X units and industrial CCU applications.

Strengthening Integration Into Modular Power-to-X Systems

The improved membrane performance supports seamless integration into ZEFIRA’s larger system architecture, which includes plasma activation, syngas generation, and fuel-synthesis reactors. With the upgraded purification step, ZEFIRA can offer a more energy-efficient and scalable route for transforming captured CO₂ into methanol, DME, and other renewable fuel intermediates.

Pilot testing and extended durability trials are already underway, with early results confirming long-term stability and minimal degradation under extended operation. This progress reinforces ZEFIRA’s vision of delivering fully electrified, modular, and locally deployable CO₂-to-fuel solutions across Europe and beyond.
