Improving Plasma Activation Efficiency
ZEFIRA continues to advance the state of non-thermal plasma technology with a newly validated milestone demonstrating improved CO₂ activation efficiency. Plasma activation is critical because it enables CO₂ to be transformed under electrified conditions without high thermal input. The latest tests show enhanced conversion at reduced energy demand, enabling more efficient coupling with membrane reactors and catalytic fuel-synthesis steps.
The achievement is the result of optimized plasma-reactor geometry, upgraded electrode configuration, and improved gas-flow management. Together, these enhancements allow the plasma unit to operate more stably, even when integrated with intermittent renewable-electricity sources.
Strengthening the Link Between Plasma and Membrane Reactors
This validation milestone brings ZEFIRA closer to delivering a fully integrated plasma–membrane system for industrial decarbonization. The improved plasma activation step ensures that CO₂ is pre-conditioned in a way that significantly enhances downstream membrane-reactor performance, leading to higher overall fuel yields and better carbon efficiency.
The updated plasma platform will be included in future Horizon Europe demonstration setups, where long-duration testing will validate readiness for scaled industrial deployment. This achievement further underscores ZEFIRA’s commitment to electrified carbon conversion at high efficiency.
